Low pay, incompetent co-workers - AV Technician Markey's Employee Review

Pros

Travel and hotel paid for, a decent job to have fresh out of college if you're an audio or film major.

Cons

Non-existent training on equipment you haven't already used. Benefits suck, hours can be rough. Learn how to work with broken gear, or bring your own and charge the company to rent it from you like I did. The main office will mess up your order every time, so don't expect to have the gear you need for a show. Sometimes unsafe working conditions, such as riding in a box truck with someone who worked 13 hours that day (OSHA violation).

Pros

The company is an ESOP so all the employees really care. Most people want to help you succeed and provide the tools to do so.

Cons

Inconsistent hours (comes with the industry).

Pros

fantastic people. everyone is great at their job and always willing to teach and learn. I often hear it's the best experience you'll have in the industry in STL and I believe it. Four hour minimum, automatic overtime after midnight. Employee owned.

Cons

Driving. PRN work can be very irregular. Outdoor events are murder. Must work hard on maintaining physical condition. Potential con: you will have to train somebody on something at some point no matter who you are, make sure you're cool with it.
