Pros
Lowe's has a good philosophy regarding balance between home life and work life. Usually in retail management postions in other companies, you are expected to work at least one day out of every weekend. At Lowe's, you are only required to work every other weekend. They do offer a 10% discount to the employee and immediate family members. I had worked for Home Depot in the past and they did not offer any discount to their employees except during the Christmas holiday season. The benefits are comparable to other big box retailers. The stores, as a whole, are cleaner than Home Depot.
Cons
The Store Manager salary at Lowe's was sub-par with othe big box retail establishements. The Store Managers are ultimately responsible for anything that goes wrong or does not get done even if a subordinate manager signed off on the task. In otherwords, the Store Manager is what the company termed "The Validator". It seemed redundant and terribly inefficient to have to run behind EVERYONE and recheck their work. Most notorious were the closing procedures. It seemed that there was no need for anyone but the Store Manager to close down the entire store for the day. The idea of a Store Manager is to TRUST the employees that he/she has working for them instead of "validating" everyl ittle task that they are entrusted to perform.
