Poorly managed with strange decisions that led to collapse - Backend Developer Le Site Employee Review

Pros

Great development team with a lot of knowledge and a nice work life balance. Lots of time for lunch and beer. I was never asked to work overtime.

Cons

Upper management made some truly baffling decisions that made no sense. Got acquired by a company to build their site, and when the site had no sales they laid off everyone except for the sales team. The management was stubborn and doubled down on their bad decisions and didn't include any of the employees in the decision making process (some of employees being more senior than upper management). Projects and features get insanely undersold to land the client, and then the blame/pressure falls on the devs when they can't deliver. Eventually the clients end up leaving. Bonuses get promised and not delivered, a toxic culture at the top lead to toxicity among the teams until everyone was complaining and hated their job. Glad to have gotten out.

Pros

- Great team members, and a pleasant work environment. Bilingual environment. - As far as I can tell, salaries are good. - The ownership is not greedy. They will not hesitate to invest in something/ressources if deemed necessary or worth trying. - No hard hierarchy -- although not always a good thing. - Clients/projects from different industries (B2B, B2C, retail, clothing, machinery, tools, etc. etc.) - The neighbourhood and what comes with it (Le Plateau)... if you like it - Monthly "town halls" where management goes over what's happenning/what will be happenning/news/etc, with lunch included. - Good work is recognized, and praised. As well, when something is not done well... they'll let you know (which I believe is a good thing, although sometimes can be done differently) - Lunch-and-learns - Perks such as coffee/tea, fruit, "5-à-7" drinks and snacks on Fridays, Playstation, other gifts/perks/events/parties here and there. - While its not always "easy" (afterall... this is life and we are in the workforce), the ownership and management always give a great importance to work/life balance. "Family comes first". Should you need help with something, they'll gladly help if they can. Of course, one must not abuse of it. - Metro (STM) walking distance

Cons

- No hard hierarchy -- although not always a bad thing. - The neighbourhood and what comes with it (Le Plateau)... if you don't like it - Parking
