Good stepping stone, horrible training - Registered Nurse LaserAway Employee Review

Pros

If you are wanting to get in the door into aesthetics, this is a good place to start for some experience. Pay is decent, not enough to live super comfortable.

Cons

There’s a lot of cons. First and foremost, the issue between sales and medical is ridiculous. Sales tend to run the “clinic”. If nurses refuse to do a treatment (due to time restraints, contraindications, patient is late, patient has not shaved) sales will fight back and basically try to force the nurses to provide the treatments, if not, the issue will be escalated to the regional managers. Another huge one is double booking. They are over working the RNs with double bookings through out their day as well as long appointments back to back. Also, be prepared to do Laser hair reduction all day everyday. If your goal is to be an injector, you will not be happy here. No further education is provided. Trainings are horrible. After I left and joined an actual med spa as an injector where continuing education is provided and sufficient trainings are done, I’ve realized I’ve been under treating all of my patients. You will notice the patients never achieving their potential results and they will ask you and you are encouraged to sell them another expensive bundle. Also, no tips nor commission goes to the nurses. You are doing all the work, while sales sits in front and collects your commission and refuses your tips. They also increased the pay of sales while nurses are stuck without a pay increase. Also, insurance is pretty pricey, especially if you have a family.

LaserAway Response

Thanks for the review. Scheduling at LaserAway runs similar to other outpatient clinics; the medical staff treats patients while another department manages the schedule! This allows clinicians to focus their attention on the patient in front of them. We have some of the most comprehensive training in the aesthetics (which includes online, in person, and on-demand training) and are surprised to hear that you were dissatisfied with our program. We hope your current position is a better fit and wish you the best of luck in the future!

Pros

Competitive pay and strong training for new aesthetic providers. You’ll gain experience quickly because of the high patient volume.

Cons

LaserAway is a sales company disguised as a medical practice. Revenue consistently comes before patient care and provider well-being. Providers are routinely triple booked, making it nearly impossible to give patients the time and attention they deserve. Rushing through consultations and treatments creates unnecessary stress, increases burnout, and can compromise patient safety. Sales consultants have more influence than licensed medical professionals. Treatments are frequently sold before a provider even evaluates the patient, and nurses are often expected to justify or perform services they may not believe are appropriate. Medical opinions are routinely overshadowed by sales goals. The culture prioritizes quotas, memberships, and packages over ethical, patient-centered care. The PTO policy is extremely poor. Full-time employees receive only about 1.5 weeks of PTO per year, yet you’re expected to keep your schedule open seven days a week. You cannot submit unavailability or reliably schedule appointments in advance without using your already limited PTO. Maintaining any work-life balance is unnecessarily difficult.
