Pros

I mad so many friends at L'Arche Portland. It is a tight community and there is frequent interaction through all levels of the leadership. They encourage growth. It's fun, community based, active, and involves problem solving.

Cons

It's a very difficult job. It's dirty and messy and frustrating at times. That's life.

Pros

L'Arche Portland is a community, which makes it a really unique and fulfilling place to work. I have met many of my best friends in Portland here and have felt supported through personal changes/struggles. I feel valued as an employee and my creativity and expression is encouraged. L'Arche Portland attracts incredibly kind, generous, humble, accepting people who want to be a part of something meaningful.

Cons

At L'Arche Portland, you will either be working in the office as part of the leadership team, in the homes as an assistant (direct support professional), or a mixture of the two. I can only speak to my experience on leadership team. L'Arche Portland is small which sometimes feels limiting. While L'Arche Portland strives to be accepting and inclusive of all spiritual backgrounds, it has roots in catholicism that are still alive in certain traditions. This might make some people feel uncomfortable or confused.
