Love the students, hate the employer. State Board needs to gut Systems Office. - Anonymous employee Ivy Tech Community College Employee Review

Pros

The pros are the standard pros that most educators experience. Our peers and colleagues who do the ACTUAL work are pleasant. We love helping students and really want to make a difference. The students are the reason we come to work every day. There are many opportunities to make a difference in the everyday lives of the students we serve(d).

Cons

Systems Office is filled with financial bloat and "Mean Girls" cliques. They pad their salaries and hire 30+ Vice Presidents (of one title or another) while the campuses suffer. The SO leadership is largely a Mean Girls squad. You're either in or you're fired. There is no true leadership. The Systems Office "leadership" is abhorrent. Sue Ellspermann shows a kind smile and pretends to listen. There are faux "town hall" meetings to save face with the State Board and accreditors. The reality is that Sue and her cronies are domineering leaders and aren't actually open to feedback. None of the VPs or Assistant VPs (minus one here or there) that work at Systems Office are.

Pros

Flexible scheduling. Good coworkers. Meaningful work. Above average campus support.

Cons

Low pay, with no possibilities of raises for the last couple of years and probably for the next could have years as well. Ever increasing responsibilities as statewide leadership changes and state funding cuts occur. Disconnect between statewide leadership and local campus needs.
