Pros

It pays into the railroad retirement, Its a pay check ... ok insurance for non union employees

Cons

Non- union unless your train crew insurance was not bad but also not great either they would work you non stop.... in one month I worked 21 days in a row and one day off then worked the remainder of the month with out a day off. Then if they have enough people your lucky to get 80 hours a half..... reminder for some a half is not 2 weeks varies could be a day or 2 more. most averaged 70 hours . Its Feast or Famine so when you get hours you have to save it for when you don't get hours. They want you to make decisions but then no matter the choice that is made its wrong because they did not make it. By the way there is no person of color in the office and when they find out your married or have mixed kids they do there best to run out and make you quit or fail you on efficiency tests.

Pros

IAIS strives to be employee-friendly! With FRA regs and Union positions, some things are set in stone. But this railroad gives a stable career and income and has a family feel! Glad to be a part of it.

Cons

Have a realistic expectation if you are a craft employee. Being the backbone of the railroad, it can have long days; but something to be proud of!
