Pros

A good support system and perks. Housing is mostly available. Government pays for a lot of perks such as children's education, car mileage, etc. The intrinsic value of working for your country. The work life balance in Base postings is great. The respect from society is high. postings allow you to see Central and South India well.

Cons

Extremely rigid and bureaucratic structure. It is the govt after all. The Navy has forgotten to get rid of the British baggage and proudly carries a lot of garbage from that era. Seniors can be very abrasive and culture can quickly be very vindictive if you don't fall in the mold. Training is tough, especially for the cadet entry. It is everything you can imagine and more. Many cadets drop out after being injured for life. Officer entry cadets cannot leave the service voluntarily unless allowed by the President, which will never happen. Below Officer entry have very little perks and are treated very rough, end up doing menial jobs for the officers. Overall culture is not of collaboration and uplifting but rather sad.
