Chaos in the middle of personal politics - City Manager Hamtramck, Michigan Employee Review

When I was there most of the people were great to work with. The benefits are good compared to many other cities. The work is challenging, but rewarding.

Since I left the city went into receivership and is under State control. It appears that things are turning around under the Emergency Manager, but it has taken a lot of work on the EM's part in order to turn things around. Politics are tough, many of the elected officials are more worried about personal gains than they are in making things better for the city. While many of the people are great, far too many are caught up in pettiness, talking behind your back and in getting even for things that may not even been your fault. The rumor mill can be a killer if you do not know how to control it.
