Pros

Good pay. Good location. Decent benefits.

Cons

Poor Management. Group managers are worked like slaves and don’t have the time to develop new grads or new hires. Instead, you will be saddled with months and months of mundane tasks so they can keep you billable until they find something else for you to do. The Houston office culture is a shell of what it once was. There used to be a great balance of friendship and respect among management and project teams. Now it’s do your job, don’t ask questions, this is wrong, go home. Some of Senior management actually cares but just doesn’t have the time. Other offices in the company are balanced and cooperative and I now work remote for another branch which is night and day from the Houston office. Pay is good but you won’t develop the skills necessary to work for another firm at the same caliber. After several years if I were to apply with another firm I would not be surprised if they asked me “what exactly did you learn at HNTB?” Thankfully I am catching up after transferring to a new office.
