Pros
There is one department within IT that is basically left alone and are running smoothly (OBX), that team works as a team of competent professionals. They consistently meet or exceed customer expectations.. the rest of IT is simply a mess.
Cons
SAP was implemented 2 years ago, it was several 10's of million dollars over budget and over a year behind schedule. And to meet those deadlines the IT turnover was extremely high due to overworked employees. Since the implementation business projects have queued up and are now the focus of the company and IT. Added to the dysfunction is the fairly new presence of a PMO, which is basically fork lifting a project methodology from a large consulting company that is entirely too heavy for a company and projects of the size that are being performed. I don't work in IT but interface with it on a daily basis, have been involved with a few high priority IT projects and I have yet to meet the CIO... is is non-existent in the organization. Regularly is out of the office travelling to where no one seems to know and only wants his direct reports to do all of the work, update him the day before large planning meetings so he can present like he is actually in charge. I understand not micro-managing your staff but this guy has a new management style... absenteeism... maybe I am just out of touch and it is a new philosophy that I am not aware of... I do know he is online as he posts to LinkedIn about 10 times per day everyday.
