Pros

better quality guards,okay pay rates

Cons

No mobile patrols,no dispatch after hours, only has a few sites left after losing sites. If a guard leaves a site it takes upwards of 5-6 weeks to find a replacement which existing guards are forced to work O.T to cover open shifts whether they want to or not. Site supervisors are responsible for scheduling ,sick coverage, administration duties that should be handled by office staff like every other company,no part time floaters since they only have a few sites ie 6 sites..Outrageous hiring practices which lead to longer hiring times, drug testing like the USA.You sign American contracts that are illegal in Canada..However they charge the most money to clients in the industry since the majority of the money is sent back to the USA.They do monthly training reading and testing on various topics and tell the client they give guards 3 hours of monthly training, but the guards are doing this reading and testing on site time for which the client is unaware. How can they say they are an industry leader ? They are still in the stone age when it comes to employee rights and work/life balance. When companies find out about the smoke and mirrors and what they are actually getting for their money they cancel contracts. Then Guardsmark wonders why. The president of the company is so full of himself he likes to read his name in print every opportunity whether in monthly newsletters or in emails about himself

Pros

This company is staffed by exceptional people. They are always willing and able to go above and beyond to make sure the job gets done. Guardsmark is not like any other security company out there; we provide the best security officers available in the market. Period.

Cons

Personally, my commute was a challenge, but that really has no bearing on you, the reader. Hours can be very long, but I think that was a product of the clientele that we have. Currently Guardsmark is going through a tremendous growth phase. There is *always* more work to do as a result. Deadlines can be a challenge simply due to how many there are at any given time. I don't really consider this a con so much as a "be prepared for this" kind of thing. Knowing what to expect will prevent you from forming expectations that will conflict with reality.
