Pros
- You will never be fired - Base salary is average - One or two exceptional engineers are around (if you ever get a chance to work with them is a different story)
Cons
- Middle management does not encourage collaboration and in fact actively tries to undermine communication between employees by creating rumors, telling employees not to invite others in meetings etc. - Innovation is continuously stifled and employees are told to look only at the immediate problems that customers are dealing with. - Senior management is completely out of touch with the politics of middle management, which causes insane turnover (average of 25-30% when I worked there) - One great middle manager, one completely incompetent manager that wants to take credit for everything but never does any work, one socially awkward, reactionary middle manager that desperately needs to go into therapy. - The best engineers leave the moment they find better jobs, and the only ones left are the mediocre ones or the unlucky ones that haven't found a job yet. - 2 of the middle managers and sometimes the director get into shouting matches in the hallway or in meetings with other team members. These are never addressed and create a horrible working environment. - Overall, a toxic work environment with minimal collaboration and lack of innovation all wrapped up in a beautiful ribbon of corporate politics. Here's a good example: the number of glassdoor 4 star reviews with a bunch of BS written on them that mysteriously appeared after an employee mentioned all the negative reviews during an all hands meeting.
