Pros

Pay isn't terrible, bonus based commission isn't bad compared with other call centers

Cons

all leads are 'warm outbound' calls, meaning we receive calls, but Tier 1 agents call them for us. When we get the call, it feels like inbound, but isn't. Most people we speak to have no idea why they were contacted, which makes selling a plan quite difficult. The leads are terrible, the ads are scammy and misleading. It's an incredibly difficult job. They also do layoffs each year, and swear they won't. The mandated overtime is completely unreasonable during AEP season, we're talking FORCED 11 hour days or more (and more is heavily encouraged) and both weekend days. No work life balance at this job at all. No mention of this during interviews, although they'll swear they divulged it. They did not. The training is thorough, but in no way prepares you for the realities of the day to day job. No mention of how the leads come to the agent, no mention of the outbound nature of the calls. It's essentially all outbound, but you won't know it until you're in production. It would be nice for one company out there to be honest with prospective employees, so we can decide whether or not to sign on. Because GoHealth holds your appointments hostage for 6 months after you leave the company, which makes it impossible to get another insurance agent job. Steer clear. It's not worth it.

We appreciate the time you took to write the review but would like to clarify a few things. Our Connect Team, formerly known as Tier 1, receives calls and connects consumers with a licensed insurance agent only after confirming their eligibility and only contact consumers if they have been given explicit permission by the consumer to do so. We also do not do layoffs every year. The annual enrollment period is our busiest time of year but I hope you can agree that work/life balance returns to fairly stable levels outside of those few months. I work on the recruitment team and would be happy to schedule a call with you to learn more about how the job was presented to you. I agree with you that we should be up front in the interview process and want to learn more about your experience so it doesn't happen again. My email is srackow@gohealth.com

Pros

When I joined, we were a young, resilient, determined group of very smart individuals. The scale we were operating on made it very easy to feel as if there was some tangible impact. As people were let go or moved to other companies, it opened up a lot of opportunities for people in the early-mid portion of careers.

Cons

The business model was so clearly designed around things entirely out of our control, so when Carriers decide they don’t us to be allowed to sell their products for them we aren’t really able to do much to offset that loss. Every attempted pivot to diversify income streams demonstrated that this system wasn’t going to work for us without an administration that encouraged health insurance carriers to invest in expansion. Constantly changing priorities, no gaps in between mission critical objectives, we were almost always on fire and being asked just to hold on and bear with management.
