Pros

I met some incredibly talented people…many of whom were smart enough to leave.

Cons

If you’re looking for a job that demands round-the-clock availability, this is the place for you. My time here made me reconsider both my priorities and career choices. While there are opportunities to learn, they come at a significant cost. My mental well-being declined as I was expected to be available at all times, including evenings and weekends. The supposed 9-to-6 work schedule was only enforced in the morning, when you had to be at your desk by 9 AM, but when 6 PM arrived, it was often ignored, as finishing your work took priority over personal time. Work-life balance is nonexistent in management’s eyes. The idea of having dinner with your family after work hours is almost laughable to them. If you thrive in a chaotic, disorganized environment where blame is frequently shifted, and accountability is a foreign concept, then this may be the right place for you. Some (if not most) members of management lack essential leadership skills and would benefit from proper training as yelling, belittling, and losing their temper are not effective ways to communicate. Despite constant restructuring, the company’s high turnover rate remains unchanged. If you have a family or value your mental well-being, I strongly recommend staying away. The biggest take away from this review? Believe the reviews. I chose to ignore them, only to realize later that they were all true.

Pros

The general office environment, decor, and snacks are nice. Salaries are higher than most competitors, and the health insurance and retirement benefits are very good.

Cons

This organization has significant leadership and cultural deficiencies. There has been an unsustainable amount of staff turnover and reactive restructuring. Former leaders who brought strong creative direction, innovation, and positive team engagement have all exited, affecting morale and continuity with retailers. Decision-making is highly centralized, with no autonomy for teams. Creative direction is driven more by a specific individual's preference rather than by customer insights or market data, leading to misalignment with retail partners and requiring the work to be started over. Frequent last-minute changes and reactive shifts in direction make it difficult to plan and focus on outcomes. At the senior level, there is a lack of clarity around long-term strategy and expectations. At the team level, workflows are regularly disrupted, resulting in working nights and weekends, often with no visibility into the reasoning behind decisions. Overall, the combination of high turnover, inconsistent direction, and weak leadership makes Garan a difficult environment in which both the business and staff can succeed.
