Pros

Pros are some travel opportunities, these become more limited the more you progress in the company. Also some involvement in large noteworthy projects, but note your scope of work might be a very small part of the overall project.

Cons

So many cons. Have never seen a company push so hard for profits. Profit takes priority over employees. Professional fees are very high and aimed towards the larger clients. Innovative proposal writing is used to counter the high fees. Each individual is almost self managed with “management” pitching up to crack the whip when timesheets are done. Management is almost non-existant. Management expects you to work above and beyond your contract, but when the employee wants something the default answer is no, or “if its not in your contract it doesn't exist”. As an employee you will frequently not have enough work and keep yourself busy doing fee proposals. Fee proposals and the lack of project/billable work causes timesheet stress. Company restructures often and redundancies are frequent. Salaries are below industry average. Mentoring is very very limited, its likely that the mentor is under heavy pressure to make his/her own time sheet work and does not have time to mentor. The more career progression you make the more projects you have to take on with less time to be booked per project. Its a miserable place to be!

Pros

Great starting point as an internship, gives you good experience to the professional and consulting world, pay for an engineering intern is satisfactory. Values of the company and support from coworkers is appreciated. Seems to be a psychologically safe place to work and make mistakes. No noticeable workplace toxicity or politics. Everyone seems to be authentic and chill. Not noticing anyone keeping their heads down and received reports of satisfaction with work environment from coworkers. Exposure to a variety of projects, including field work experiences. Seems to be a solid resume builder.

Cons

Need to be pretty proactive for work. For me who enjoys having work to do, its kind of stressful. You have to take initiative in making your own plan. For someone who thrives in structure and needs a bit of help in planning, this is a struggle. Limited flexibility in doing a hybrid role (even though job description stated it was when I applied) For someone who is 42 mi from the office and with heavy traffic takes 1h 15 min to reach the office, its a struggle. But I understood that my commute time is longer than average when I took the position.
