Pros

I loved the freedom. I loved the challenge of the community engagement project and I put a ton of effort into it. My co-ETA and I had a lot of fun creating unique English-learning experiences for our University students. We were also often invited to speak to various students in different cities. With Fulbright, you reap what you sow, so high effort = high reward. I also participated in "Reach the World" while there, which was fun, and served as an "Opportunity USA" mentor." I am still in touch with my mentee and I actually met him recently in person! I went back to Brazil recently (like a few months ago) to see my old friends. Even if you don't like the city you are placed in, you have plenty of opportunities to explore Brazil, and it is an amazing country!

Cons

It's hard to adjust to life after Fulbright. It is hard to find a job after and I think Fulbright needs to do better at supporting this transition. Although I loved my experience in Pato Branco, the experience can vary significantly based on your placement city, host professor, etc.

Pros

Very friendly people and received very quick email responses when the need arose.

Cons

Sometimes, feel very "on your own" once you arrive at your city without much direction from the Fulbright Commission
