Great Place for Experience - Housing Case Manager Front Steps (TX) Employee Review

Pros

When I started out as a shelter case manager I had a ton of support and loved my co-workers and supervisors. As time went on, there was a lot of turnover and the responsibilities of my position changed and became overwhelming as we became short staffed. The leadership of the organization changed, and I felt that it was diverging from my own personal views on how to be effective. Basically, I think I personally just burned out given the staff shortages. I believe this is an excellent place to work to get real, exciting experience working with those experiencing homelessness.

Cons

High turnover; not the greatest pay starting out but very comparable to the area; Hi stress job, but worth the mission

Pros

I received multiple pay raises from November 2020 till September 2022 in addition to yearly bonuses. The pay raises were roughly about 3 %, but I don't remember the amounts of the bonuses. However, every little bit helped.

Cons

While I was there, not once did I receive a yearly review, or any feedback positive or negative.

Pros

Great clients. Most of my coworkers were great. The pay was very good, especially for the overnight shift. There was a huge focus on taking time off for mental health. There were also several cost of living wage raises.

Cons

There were a few coworkers that didn't pull their weight. They were lazy and barely did anything. One would sleep on the job overnight and the other would bully clients about the smallest things. Then you had to do damage control when they set off a client.
