It's a decent stepping stone. - Banking Center Customer Service Manager First Merchants Employee Review

Pros

Your co-workers feel like family. You opportunities to learn what it's like to help a smaller company grow. If you stay long enough, you have ample room to step up the ladder. Good for those looking to gain experience in banking.

Cons

There will be plenty of times where your work-life balance just becomes work and no life. I don't have benefits through FMB, but my co-workers complain that they pay a good amount for mediocre coverage. Goals are hard to hit especially with lack of advertising and locations in some regions.

Pros

You get all holidays off and paid.

Cons

This company does not prioritize its employees or its branches only money and sales. New hires receive minimal training and are immediately thrown into work on outdated systems from the 90s, none of which communicate with each other. It creates unnecessary stress and sets employees up to fail. They also do not pay employees for the time spent opening the branch in the morning; pay does not start until all opening procedures are completed. Every other bank pays for this time, and this practice feels both unfair and exploitative. HR can be extremely difficult to deal with. If you end up on their bad side, they may manipulate your schedule or misrepresent your hours. This environment does not feel safe or supportive. Overall, this company allows branches and customers to suffer due to poor management and prioritizing their own interests over basic employee welfare. Based on what I’ve seen, I’m genuinely surprised this bank is still operating the way it does.
