Pros

The people I've worked with have been always a pleasure and we always seemed to get along and have fun during our shift. The work itself consists of alot of heavy lifting as its a warehouse job. Be prepared to drive a forklift and pickup truck regularly. I do alot of order processing and delivery to customer locations. I'm sort of working my way from a warehouse role into an office based role. My new duties include converting quotes into orders, vendor purchasing, pricing, delivery to customers, vending machine management, and more.

Cons

Hard to get any increase in compensation of any kind. No matter how hard you work or how much you make for the company they always have a reason to keep the budget tight and never seem to have any money left over for the employees. Even as my duties become more advanced and mentally tasking I am still left to my warehouse pay rates which isn't fair to me. The pay structure is largely to blame because any increase in a employees rate comes directly out of the store manager and district managers commission which leads to very little incentive to share the wealth with those below management roles.

Pros

I like my coworkers and my GM is a good .

Cons

The business model and lean staffing is simply unsustainable. Entry level pay, part time, little training, no commissions. Fastenal is focused on the sale rather than the customer. The wing it mentatility leaves customer service lacking. It's a roll coaster of putting one fire out after the other. They sale the position during the interview process but after your in there's empty promises with no real timelines for when the advancement is coming. Upper management seems out of touch with the day to day business. If you ask for help they simply say you have a good schedule. It's extremely disappointing that it has turned out this way because I was excited about the prospect of becoming an Account manager.
