Pros

Great work experience for a part time job while attending college. As a business major, I am getting a hands on understanding of how the supply chain works, sales experience, and using multiple Fastenal softwares. I am also challenging myself and problem solving, which is also good, valuable experience. Additionally, while this is not the industry I see myself in down the road, it's nice knowing you work for a company that tends to hire from within. All of my managers and higher ups started at the same position I'm in.

Cons

Cons: Since selling hardware isn't considered the most fun, things definitely aren't super exciting on the job. It's an easy going and relaxed work culture, but there's a lot of time that moves pretty slowly. At least at my branch, there is a serious lack of diversity. Currently, there is probably 10 to 12 employees at my local branch, all of which are male. I think diversity is super beneficial in growing a company, and would like it if there was women working alongside us. However, based on the industry, it is understandable that there are way less women applicants applying for job.

Pros

I like my coworkers and my GM is a good .

Cons

The business model and lean staffing is simply unsustainable. Entry level pay, part time, little training, no commissions. Fastenal is focused on the sale rather than the customer. The wing it mentatility leaves customer service lacking. It's a roll coaster of putting one fire out after the other. They sale the position during the interview process but after your in there's empty promises with no real timelines for when the advancement is coming. Upper management seems out of touch with the day to day business. If you ask for help they simply say you have a good schedule. It's extremely disappointing that it has turned out this way because I was excited about the prospect of becoming an Account manager.
