Pros

After a decade in sales- I made the transition into the P & C insurance world with Esser Hayes Insurance Group and I could not ask for a better start to my Insurance career. First and foremost- Esser Hayes is a class organization with a great culture and extraordinary people. You will not find a better group of individuals that truly care about the success of their clients, coworkers, and partners. Each person that works for EHIG is as gifted and caring as the next. Even more importantly- EHIG is made up of a collective group that all believe in doing the right thing. These values reverberate throughout the organization and are felt at the customer and partner level. From top down- Esser Hayes has the people, tools, and resources in place to give their employees the best opportunity to succeed. A fantastic leadership team, led by Bill Hayes (CEO) and Howard Weiss (President), have committed to growing the organization into the most trusted and dynamic independent insurance agency in Illinois. Partners like Gary Semmer and Tom Hayes parlay their years of success, expertise and experience into the mentoring of newer producers to ensure the foundation of EHIG for years to come. EHIG’s client services, claims and marketing teams are unparalleled. Groups of talented and hard-working individuals led by Johnny Zitko, Arne Gabrielsen, and Josh Polak (human insurance Wikipedia) do an amazing job of finding the perfect market and then creating and executing a service timeline specific to each client and are ultimately why EHIG has the best customer retention in the business. Be Passionate. Be Fearless. Believe in the Process. Celebrate Success. Those are the 4 things Tom Hayes said to me when I walked through the door of EHIG and will take with me for the rest of my career. If you want to be better, if you want to love where you work, and if you are of the highest character- Esser Hayes is the place for you.

Cons

Leaving Esser Hayes was the hardest decision of my career and left me with a few sleepless nights. My decision to leave was 99% financial as a national firm gave me an offer that I could not refuse at this stage of my career. I hope and intend to keep in touch with the Esser Hayes team and look forward to hearing about the inevitable success and growth that they will continue to experience.

Pros

I think low caliber people get low caliber results! Esser Hayes is a great place to make a living and love where you work. They are willing to pay for the full amount of any continuing education or professional development. They have great relationships with every major market and every regional market. As for the marketing manager he's about the nicest, hardest working, most knowledgeable insurance professional in the middle market. If he couldn't get you "the lowest price" you probably got used by the prospect. As for nepotism, not a problem here. I am in no way related to, friends with or even familiar with a single person who worked at EH prior to being hired. They supported me, helped me grow, educated and mentored me on a great career. Made me feel like a part of the family. The camaraderie is like other place I've ever worked. The upper management is led by Bill Hayes and Howard Weiss. I'll start with Bill - Tremendous character, cares about every employee. Something the last post might not know is he's at the office every morning between 6:45 -7:00am. I have the up most respect for this man. Howard Weiss- Best leader I've ever followed. If you want to be inspired, listen to Howard. If you want to be one of the top insurance professionals, listen to Howard. If you want to achieve your professional goals... anyone? Listen to Howard. These are not polite suggestions, do what he says and you will become a leader in the organization. Little known fact: Howard is from Ohio, related to nobody with a name on the door. Came to EH and started at the bottom, so listen to him and you might get ahead too. As far as compensation if you do what they ask (your job) for 8 hours/day, make minimal effort to better yourself and grow your area of expertise, you will be handsomely compensated.

Cons

I left because I was offered partnership stake in the largest privately held brokerage in the world. Hardly a con towards Esser Hayes. Bill Hayes & Howard Weiss handled my departure like the class act I expected them to be. The feeling of family remains in tact. So here's one former employee who never had a title in management, that can't think of a con.

Pros

Esser Hayes has a family like atmosphere with a professional and experienced work force. They have an excellent work life balance with a "let's get it done together" mindset. I like working here because they have unlimited coverage capabilities, can broker for businesses of any size, provide excellent resources, offer and encourage continuing education, have a great work/life balance and truly do the right thing for both employees and clients. It's an excellent place to work and grow a career.
