Pros

Some truly lovely people work here, but unfortunately they have their personalities squashed on an almost daily basis

Cons

No constructive appraisal process is followed HR policy is not followed No CPD offered, encouraged, or facilitated Angry management personnel Petty culture of demeaning individuals who could add so much more Zenophobic and mildly racist comments in the working environment are commonplace Senior management are unaware of the skills of their staff and unaware of the skills required to do the job.

Pros

There aren't many pros, the job is interesting I suppose (forensic). Other than that, there isn't much. Company pension - pretty much the only benefit the company will give you.

Cons

No yearly benefits - there is no such thing as a pay rise after years of dedication to the company Very high staff turnover - this pretty much tells you what it is like to work there. Ridiculously poor pay for the work carried out for lower level staff. When the pressure is on, everything is your fault. Make sure you have a thick skin to work here - no matter what you do it will be wrong. Job requirement was a degree - you really really do not need a degree to carry out my job. Routine and any outside thinking is frowned upon No respect at all from higher staff, general staff motivation is down and staff are mostly miserable No chance of progression - no way you can really build a career here

Pros

Staff are down to earth.

Cons

I was mislead about my pay from the very beginning. Told I would receive a fuel allowance and then told "well you signed the contract" when this turned out to be untrue. Constantly given lip service about a pay rise. The only ones to receive pay rises were those on minimum wage (in line with Government imposed increases) or those who threatened to leave. Actively encouraged to work in hazardous areas such as an unapproved and unregulated contamination lab dealing with asbestos. I was never encouraged to be familiar with Procedures and Standards and it is the culture of the laboratory to ignore procedure in favour of profit. Health and safety is if little or no concern again in favour of profit. Health and safety culture in the laboratory is woefully inadequate. Health and Safety procedures are often ignored by senior staff when it suits them and they won't tolerate their negligence being highlighted and often cover up for each other. Senior staff are completely unapproachable and speak to lab staff with no regard for their rights or with any respect and disliked across the workforce. Managers are often swapped and changed when their incompetence becomes too obvious to conceal any longer. Without doubt the worst place I have worked in 20 years.
