There's a bit of disconnection between the C levels and individual contributors. Being such a big company, you can imagine there's a whole layer of management from middle managers to directors, VPs and stuff. We used to have quarterly all hands, but developers don't see them as relevant to their day to day life, especially if they work outside of US.
Promotions are also a bit rare to come by. People can easily go junior to senior or to lead, but when it comes to make the jump up one level it can be more tricky.
