Where do I begin...? The toxicity within the finance team was something to behold, particularly from management. Management have their own clique, almost cult-like, where they collude to form a culture of intimidation and excessive micromanagement. A clear example is when I arrived to the office an hour late and was immediately escorted to a private room for meetings with two senior managers from the finance teams regarding my whereabouts. To note, this was the first time I was late to the office during my time at the company. Furthermore, management discourage any form of critical thinking that goes against the grain. The majority of my training was spent watching recordings on how to perform my tasks. For instance, a 90 minute video on how to intricately refresh an Excel spreadsheet on a monthly basis. There were dozens of these videos that I had to memorise like a lab rat... Management also use clear intimidation tactics to get you to fall in line. At first, they are pleasant, however, this is no longer the case if you begin to ask questions on why certain things are done in a particular way or if you have general struggles with grasping a concept. Questions are discouraged. If you are someone seeking personal and career development, do not work in the finance team in Maidenhead.
