Pros
Can’t think of any pros at all
Cons
Absolutely no opportunity for promotion unless you stroke the ego of upper management and sell your soul to the boys club. Good leadership is not celebrated and these are the people who end up leaving the terrible senior people behind to wreak havoc on the well being and work/life balance of everyone else. Favouritism is everywhere and leadership in the department I worked in was non-existent. I’d go as far to say they behaved very inappropriately and created a culture of fear so that team members would not speak out. My role function changed multiple times and when I asked for a job description for latest role I was placed in (with no notice) I was told that the organisation was at liberty to move me around how they wanted. Getting on with the actual job was impossible without it being a detriment to your life, especially working from home during the pandemic. Projects, objectives and deadlines shifted every two weeks and created wasted work across the board. Internal stakeholders were also impossible to work with as they had no understanding of product management despite years of hand holding and explanation. My exit interview was with an HR person I’d never met and they worked in a completely different country so had absolutely no context of my team or role, so the process was just lip service and box ticking. The company is run on ego and people pleasing and I’m thrilled to see the back of it.
