Cons
Extremely toxic environment as co-founders micro-manage and destroy your work, effort and ethic. No realistic expectations or support: From day one you are thrown in the deep-end and expected to juggle ongoing tasks without proper briefing or introduction to the clients. Abusive treatment from one of the co-founders, including constant public humiliation and tear-down of your work. This has affected my mental state and has had a huge negative impact on my confidence and abilities. Destructive feedback limits your capacity to improve your work and lowers morale. The most constructive piece of feedback received during employment was "nice subject line", when crafting an email to a client. Limited point of view in terms of workflows, team building and ethics. Double-standards and favorites destroy morale and the sense of community that comes from a small agency, being told-off for any given reason or sent off to do menial tasks below your pay-grade Poor work-life balance: 24/7 e-mails and early starts/late nights whether there are tight deadlines or not. No lunch hour, be prepared to quickly by your food and eat at your desk. Arriving or leaving on time earns looks and is constantly frowned upon, whether you completed your work or not. Calling in sick usually means working from home or is otherwise frowned upon to miss more than one day of work. Run by 20-year olds, the entire place feels cliquey, in which circles are quickly formed and gossip spreads like wildfire. Constant judgement of each other and high egos often get in the way of mutual respect and professionalism between employees. No personal/professional development as managers do not care for anything other than making money.
