Pros

I was blue to help people make tough insurance decisions during open enrollment. Co-workers were nice and easy to get along with.

Cons

Impossible to make commission and if you quit in less than a year they will keep you last paycheck for licensing fee's paid on order for you to sell insurance products on their behalf.

We appreciate your feedback. This employee stayed with our company for a very short period of time, and we're sad to see departed unhappily. Our compensation structure certainly does not make it impossible to clear the guaranteed draw we provide from the outset, but it does require a solid work ethic and personal drive. The insurance industry is not for everyone and, like any other career, one that will not provide high levels of success after only a few short months. It is our policy, and a very unique benefit, to cover all costs associated with licensing for individuals who wish to make their start in the insurance world. All we ask in return (since this licensing continues to belong with the person should they leave) is for a departing agent to cover a pro-rated portion of the licensing investment we make in them should they leave during their first 12 months of employment. This is not hidden in any way and disclosed in writing and discussed verbally with every new hire. Without this provision, we would not be able to offer this benefit which we feel is very valuable. We wish you much success in your future employment.

Pros

Excellent income opportunities. This is a career for individuals that possess the drive to succeed. Offers a lot of freedom and personal growth opportunities. Teaches self discipline and improves existing skills for sales, customer service, analytical thinking, empathy, and compassion (yes those are skills in this line of work) 8-5 M-F except during Open Enrollment Excellent vacation benefits Provides Dental coverage 401k match Unlimited earning potential If you thrive under pressure - this is definitely the spot for you

Cons

October 1 - December 15th is insanity. If you can't handle pressure this is not the job for you. The slow season can be incredibly boring and you must possess the drive and self management skills to survive the slow months. The busy season is only 1 quarter out of the year - pardon my language but you'll go balls to the wall for 3 months and the rest of the time is steady and "normal" which can feel like turtle speed after 4th quarter. It is incredibly difficult to break into this business your first year. Once you're passed the first year it's much easier to breathe financially. They don't promote very often and if you're good at your job you'll be stuck in that position for your entire career here. Yes there is a promotional chart for the agents but at the end of the day it really changes nothing for the agents even after they've achieved that status. While it's very possible to thrive in the same position, moving up is also incredibly important to me and I'm starting to feel stifled.
