Cons
Covaris has a toxic work environment and is the worst company I've worked for. Literally the last place someone should go if they are looking for a positive work environment and culture. Corporate strategy changes constantly, based on the whims of the CEO, so there is no clear direction on what the company "wants to be". It also places incredible pressure on employees to switch gears to address the latest crisis, thus making little progress to a long-term goal (which isn't defined). I would best describe the culture as fear-based, due to the management style of the CEO. This culture of fear permeates throughout the organization and leads to the blaming of others and a general negative attitude amongst employees (gossiping, complaining, etc). This is unfortunate, because there are a number of highly intelligent, hard-working employees who are doing the best they can in a toxic culture. The CEO rules with an iron fist, is prone to angry outbursts of yelling/demeaning, and doesn't want to hear about problems (thereby allowing the blame game and a lack of trust in the organization). The CEO also wants complete control over every decision and doesn't trust employees with even some of the most minute details. All of this leads to a fear-based, toxic work environment. There is indeed promise for this company as the technology is sound, but this company will not achieve its full promise under the current management system. So happy to have left - turns out people are actually happy working at other companies.
