Pros

I like to think my direct leadership is supportive of me/ my goals and I think my team members are very kind and driven to help our clients- this is of course dependent on what team you are in the agency. They kind of expect a lot of people fresh out of undergrad to apply, or people who are looking to transition careers. As hectic as the job is, we do our best to be supportive to the clients and the work feels meaningful when we see the clients reach their goals.

Cons

Pay is not great but also typical for the social work/social services field. I do a lot of work for what I am paid (medication monitoring, treatment planning, helping clients keep their spaces clean, driving clients to appointments, and documentation), and sometimes I think a licensed social worker would do a better job at the position.

We’re glad to hear that you feel supported by your direct leadership and teammates, and that the work feels purposeful when clients reach their goals. That sense of impact is at the heart of Cornerstone Montgomery’s mission. We also appreciate your honest feedback regarding compensation, workload, and role expectations. These are important topics in community-based mental health services, and we recognize the challenges that come with supporting individuals with complex needs while operating within nonprofit funding constraints. Your comments reinforce the importance of clearly defining roles, providing appropriate training and supervision, and continuing to evaluate how we structure and support these positions.
