Pros

The mission statement of “Making lives better for children.” is a great mission statement and I believe the organization as a whole lives up to that goal. I cannot tell you how many people come up to me if they see my badge and let me know, that in spite of the reason for having to be there, their experience has been a positive one. The leadership team is navigating an uncertain future and is developing a strategy to continue to grow and adapt to a changing environment. I have read some of the negative posts regarding the organization…and in particular the IS team. The organization is going through tremendous amounts of change to be successful in its mission and its strategy. Change is always difficult, especially when coupled with a higher level of expectation in job performance. To be sure, expectations in this organization are high. But the results are there. Under the direction of its leadership, the IS team has successfully achieved several milestones including HI TRUST certification, the Davies award, HIMSS Level 7, and consistent Most Wired recognition year over year just to name a few. As a result, Childrens is nationally recognized from both a clinical and al technological perspective. I certainly feel challenged working in this organization and would recommend it to anyone who is ready to work on a dynamic team. Results, while not everything, are extremely important and the IS team certainly delivers.

Cons

The demand for IS services is high. A more robust protocol for the prioritization of that demand would help smooth out some of the spikes in expectations.

Pros

-great managers -non-interpreting staff very familiar working with an interpreter -policies and expectations set for most situations -exceptionally developed department (which includes a senior director) relative to other hospitals, which often lack even a basic interpreting department

Cons

-work volume; often few breaks, definitely not enough to do anything other than work-related tasks (e.g., study for class, make a personal phone call) -inflexible schedule -work flow heavily dependent on coworker proactivity -leadership structure (managers over leads over interpreters) can result in micromanagment
