Not a Place to Have a Career - Marketing Chamberlain University Employee Review

Pros

Honestly, the only pro at this point is the flexible/unlimited PTO.

Cons

The one word to describe Chamberlain University is dysfunctional. You can't grow a career with the organization. There have been, in the last year alone, 3-4 mass layoffs. I have personally had multiple managers because they can't figure out how to structure an organization. Performance goals? Who knows what they are at this point. I sure don't. They laid off/downsized the almost the entire marketing department around July 2024 because they weren't meeting their enrollment numbers. It's short-term thinking because no matter how many external factors could be preventing people from enrolling, those quotas are a must to make sure the company meets its margins. What really destroys the culture--the culture has become toxic at this point--is being told that we are beating expectations and having record earnings quarter-over-quarter. Then why are we continuing to lay off people? Also, employees now have to return to the office 4 days a week, even though everyone has their schedules full of Teams meetings. I guess that in-person collaboration is so important? No, it's not. Don't bother with HR either, as they don't actually care about employees. They force people to submit cases through a portal and direct people to FAQs for answers versus taking time to talk to someone. My advice to anyone looking for a job, especially in marketing? Look elsewhere. This is not a company to be a marketer. Marketing is a joke here. Things are managed like they were a decade ago instead of advancing with the times. I haven't been with the organization long, but I started updating my resume and looking for new opportunities within the first few months, as this organization ultimately feels like a sinking ship.

Pros

I've spent many years at Chamberlain, and one of the main reasons is the opportunity for growth. If you're looking for a career rather than just a job, there are clear advancement opportunities at both the enrollment representative and leadership levels. The culture is performance-driven but also coaching-focused, with strong investment in training and development. Chamberlain has strong brand recognition, which makes conversations with prospective students meaningful and rewarding.

Cons

The pace can be demanding during peak enrollment periods, and success requires adaptability as priorities and processes evolve.

Pros

There are lots of good people working in the campuses and working to help students succeed is very fulfilling.

Cons

The home office (Covista) IT takes forever and a day to do anything. There seems to be a focus on reducing costs to the point that the experience feels cheap.
