Thank you for your feedback. Please note Valero has not owned retail/convenience stores or gas stations since 2013. We are a fuels refiner/provider and do not employ cashiers or any store-based positions. If you have feedback related to retail industry jobs, please direct reviews to the appropriate owner/employer page.

Pros

Good coworkers, respectful district manager, good training.

Cons

Manager lets some people "slide" on the rules based on performance while cracking down on others for the same infractions. We do not get breaks at our jobs, contrary to Colorado state law. We also are forced to work and close the store by ourselves which is especially scary since most of our employees are young women. There is no consistent work schedule. Unless you are moving mountains, do not expect to be praised for your job. The store never closes for anything, be it police involvement, forest fire evacuations, or construction work inside the building itself. There is no higher-level sympathy for the part-time workers. We are machines. Frustrating management at the store I perform at specifically. There is no sense of trust or respect in the workplace. It very much feels like the assistant manager and manager are working behind our back as their own little team and talking and looking down on the rest of us. None of my coworkers are happy with them but when conflict arises the manager and assistant manager present themselves as though they've done you some great service by gracing you with their non-conversation and non-apologies. They accuse us regularly, especially those of us who aren't performing well above par, of lying to try to get out of work. It does not feel like a safe environment to complain in because you are easily replaced. Also, in my history with them, HR will not pick up the phone unless you stay on the line for hours. They often "don't receive" messages.
