Pros

The benefits are good (but you have to wait 3 months to be eligible)

Cons

If I'd stayed any longer, I would have completely burned out and left the field. Every day I dreaded waking up and going to this job. Abusive, unprofessional, and illegal management tactics (at all levels)- managers gossip about workers, show open favoritism, blame workers for management failings, and retaliate. A lot of the favoritism is for white workers and men. One of the most toxic work environments I've ever been in- workers clearly don't want to be there and there's often petty conflict that no one tries to fix. High turnover and absolutely no motivation to fix issues so people stay (the absurd # of vacancies despite paying more than other agencies is a clear sign). You'll be overworked, even compared to other nonprofits, to the point that it's impossible to provide quality care. General agency attitude that clients should be grateful for whatever they get and that no one will care anyway because they're homeless and/or poor. You can work yourself to death and still not get the job done. Don't care about worker safety or wellbeing, will not support you if you are disabled, BIPOC, or queer
