Cons
It’s just a bizarre place to work. They invited me for an interview totally out of the blue. I never applied to work there but they saw my cv online and invited me to an interview. The interview was scheduled for 7am which is crazy really but I thought let’s see what they’re about. I get there and they are playing really loud music. Felt like I had walked into a day time rave. The guy interviewing is supposedly one of the managers. He takes me and a couple of others to a coffee shop to chat to us about the company and how quickly you can rise to become a top executive if you’re great at selling. He says newcomers will get paid a certain amount of money to cover travel for the first two weeks. After this you’ll be paid only when you sell. Nothing was put in writing so there’s absolutely no guarantee you’ll get paid. I decided to give it a few days to see if this was a line of work I could really get into. After a few days of walking all around high streets trying to sell stuff to independent business owners, I could see this wasn’t the sort of work (if you could call it work) I wanted to be doing. In the mornings they are all shouting as they rev themselves up before going out to sell a product. It’s a totally unappealing environment to work in (for me anyway). They encourage you to be in really early like 7.30am and work late, Saturdays as well. They sell you the pipe dream that you’re onto something big and that you’re not ambitious if you don’t stick with it. It’s a con. It’s a sales job for which you will only get paid if you sell. There’s no clarity and no written agreement to give you any guarantees.
