Pros

Talented, capable peers who are committed to delivering quality work. Exposure to technically interesting challenges and large-scale product initiatives. Opportunities to contribute meaningfully at an execution level.

Cons

Highly centralised leadership model. Decision-making authority is concentrated at the top, including tactical product and operational matters. Constructive challenge is not consistently encouraged; the expectation is implementation rather than dialogue. Leadership transition reinforced centralisation. The CEO stepping aside and the founder resuming direct operational control significantly altered the company’s direction and operating model. Authority became even more concentrated, reducing autonomy at senior and mid-levels. Senior leadership misalignment. Heads of departments frequently operate with conflicting priorities, resulting in confusion, duplicated effort, and cross-functional friction. Progress can feel political rather than collaborative. Weak follow-through on agreed improvements. Structural and process issues are often acknowledged and discussed, but execution stalls. This leads to recurring conversations without sustained change. Inconsistent communication from the top. Direction is frequently reactive or insufficiently scoped. Teams are left to interpret high-level ideas and make them workable. Rapid shifts in direction. Priorities and requirements can change multiple times within short timeframes, creating instability in planning and delivery. Process overrides and bottlenecks. Established workflows are frequently bypassed. Work may be blocked pending senior approval, introducing delays and reducing ownership at team level. Resistance to data-led decision-making. While externally positioned as experiment-driven, internal support for experimentation (including A/B testing) is inconsistent. Customer interviews and research are not always treated as decision-driving inputs. Scope creep without timeline recalibration. Features are reshaped mid-delivery, often based on preference or late intervention. Timelines are not consistently adjusted, and delivery teams bear accountability for delays. Promotions lack meaningful reward. Title changes are difficult to obtain and typically come with minimal compensation increases (~2%), weakening the credibility of progression pathways. Inconsistent compensation practices. Publicly stated salary policies have selective exceptions, creating perceptions of inequity. Poorly structured career mobility. Vertical and horizontal moves lack clarity and authority. Individuals stepping into leadership roles may not receive the backing required to perform effectively. Recognition not always transparent. Ownership and credit for work can be unclear. Reduced benefits transparency. Changes to benefits have been implemented with limited consultation and reduced practical value for employees.

Thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback. It’s great to read you enjoy working with your colleagues and that you are happy with the benefits we offer. Its very disappointing to hear that you feel the culture is run on fear, we run quarterly engagement surveys and this theme has not come up in any feedback. We’d encourage you to speak with your line manager or the People team to discuss your concerns so we can find you a resolution moving forward and discuss your feedback further.
