Pros
- Friendly atmosphere. - Full creative freedom to perform your tasks and choose technological solutions, no micromanagement. - No overly strict deadlines that force you to spend days and nights at work (this is one of my primary reasons to work here, the work life balance. You can work from home from time to time, if your manager is ok with that). - No pressure about resource restrictions (we do optimize infrastructure costs from time to time, but nothing that would make it difficult to reach our goals. On the other hand, in some places I worked before, you're forced to stay within strict infrastructure budget limits and are expected to deliver 99.99% SLAs). - Salary is negotiable, don't blame the employer if you can't negotiate (this is in response to a few complaints I've seen here about wages, which I highly disagree with). - Talented people! I enjoy to work here, and I interact both with our abroad teams and the teams here in Redwood City. - The products have massive traffic, we work at a really high scale, there are interesting technical challenges to solve.
Cons
- Too many candy, cakes, snack bars, and chocolates, you get fat. - Most of the engineers speak Russian during the day, which makes it difficult for non Russian speakers to feel "part of the family", I suggest to solve this at the HR policies level. Everyone speaks English really well when there's a need (on a meeting or a call), so why not make it a policy to use only English at work, that would benefit everyone.
