Pros

- Surrounded by talented junior and mid-level colleagues with potential to contribute - Fantastic opportunity for professional growth in an emerging market space - Compensation is aligned to market averages - Socials, happy hours, and parties are plentiful

Cons

- Look at facts. You can find a large group of people who were "formerly with Amperity". Start-up environments are hard, yes. But toxic environments leave people laying in its wake. - Crazy political for such a small sized company. Hard to get work done out of fear you disagree with the executive management team or founders. - Evidence of fear is seen routinely both in operational meetings, and firings/voluntary "departures" of many staff (both senior and junior) throughout the 2019/2020 year. - On workplace culture, look no further than the public facts of their glassdoor reviews. Before more truthful reviews started appearing in 2020, look at all the 5-star reviews before it. 6 of those came before the major headcount hiring in 2018, and are likely founders or very early employees. No reviews in 2018 whatsoever (lots of key departures, both voluntary and involuntary). 3 reviews in late 2019. Only one "5.0" review in a 23 month period, during the company's growing pains. People are afraid to share. - It's hard to do meaningful work when you're worried about the inter-office political ramifications of your contributions.

Thanks for providing your feedback. Since the company was founded, our team has been committed to creating an environment in which employees can do their very best work and have fun in the process. I’m disappointed to hear that was not your experience. While attrition is something we’re always striving to improve, our attrition numbers are comparable to other high-growth technology companies at our stage, particularly given that we recently acquired a New York-based company. We highly value employee feedback and collect it regularly through anonymous engagement surveys, stay interviews between HR and employees, and guidance from our employee-led Culture Committee which includes representatives from each level and department in the company. We know that our company is not perfect, as no company is, but we do put a great deal of thought and intention into creating a culture that we can be proud of. All that being said, if you’re open to connecting and sharing more of your feedback, I would gladly welcome the conversation. I wish you the very best in your next venture. - Mary Miller (SVP, People)

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback from your time with Amperity. We are pleased to hear that you found the engineering team motivated and the technical problems engaging, but we are genuinely saddened to hear that your experience with leadership and organizational shifts left such a negative impression. We take our workplace culture, leadership transparency, and employee development seriously, and your insights regarding communication and team stability provide valuable takeaways for our executive team.
