Pros

The management here seemed to practice a 'don't ask, don't tell' philosophy--meaning everything was OK until you got caught. You could use the company credit card for anything as long as you turned in a receipt. Also, you could use the company vehicle as your own unless you got in trouble. In other words, the management here was very lax until it needed not be. You could buy tools as needed, one set for work and another for home. Company provided cell phone. Paid meals and lodging while traveling. The work was always different and exciting. The company didn't drug test unless a contractor required it (But only sent people that could pass it). They recently implemented a drug and alcohol policy on paper but don't enforce it.

Cons

99% travel. Great if you are single with no hopes of starting or wanting a family. Your life is expected to revolve around the work schedule. Overtime is mandatory. The company phone they give you is expected to be answered at all times. There was very little opportunity for advancement as the management rarely promoted within the company. The company's newly implemented safety and quality manuals were used mainly as a tool for the company to obtain work and not for employee use or protection. The company had a hard time finding quality labor and moral was always low. The work is excruciatingly hard and painful and the company does not invest in equipment to make it easier. They seemed to fear the damage an employee would do with equipment to ease the work more than the damage the work did to the employee. The company is in the battery business and batteries are heavy, however the company would not provide electric or powered means for moving several thousands of pounds of batteries daily. The company is an electrical contractor, but does not provide supervised, or licensed electrical work. The hours worked are not usable towards state licensing. The work experience obtained here is basically useless as the hours of electrical work aren't recognized. The company never paid prevailing wage on prevailing wage jobs as the 'fringe benefits' seemed to vary to make up the difference in wages. The benefits started to circle the drain once they were no longer beneficial for them to provide them.

American Power Systems Response
4y
Responding to this older review, employees and customers are our number priority. They are the foundation of the company. Our employee tenure speaks to how we take care of our employees. Management follows the same rules as everyone else. We have company policies that all employees are expected to follow. We care about everyone’s safety and we’ll being.

Pros

This company is owned by a larger family-owned company and feels like a family. The parent company has 11,000 employees and still feels like a family. We are a lot smaller, so we get the benefits of small and the benefits of a larger parent that doesn't meddle. Of the 3 companies I've worked for in my 40 yr career, and the many that I've dealt with an visited, this has the happiest employees (including me)

Pros

I’ve been with American Power Systems, LLC for two months now, and I truly can’t say enough positive things about my experience so far. The interview and onboarding process were, without a doubt, the best I’ve ever encountered. From start to finish, there was constant communication, transparency, and even thoughtful welcome gifts that made me feel valued right away. Every person I’ve interacted with has been incredibly friendly and always willing to help with anything I’ve needed. It has made transitioning into the role both smooth and enjoyable. I also had the pleasure of attending the AC and DC Batteries 101 training class, which left me amazed at just how much there was to learn about battery power. I walked away far more knowledgeable than I ever expected to be about batteries and DC power. It’s exciting to know that I am part of the critical power industry and contributing to such an essential field. I recently had the opportunity to use my prescription benefits, and I was genuinely impressed—my co-pays were the lowest I’ve seen since the 1990s. That level of benefit really stands out. Overall, I’m extremely grateful to be part of such a supportive, knowledgeable, and well-organized team.

Cons

I have no cons to mention at this time.
