Pros
They have the best benefits
Cons
No organizational skills, terrible leadership, terrible work ethic, micro managing and the list goes on I work for Albany County Probation and this is the most unprofessional place I have worked in. When you’re on the outside looking to get into the state or the county, you have no idea what is going in these places. Most of these places have no structure, no organizational skills, they lack common leadership skills, and their work ethic is beyond terrible. These people don’t have the slightest idea of what it’s like being on the outside looking in. In fact, they don’t have the slightest idea of what the outside is like and they wouldn’t survive in any other place besides this one because they will get fired in a heart beat. Mind you, most people have been in this organization for over 20 years and some as far as 30 to 40 years and most are not looking to retire which keeps people wanting to get in out. Seniors and supervisors are often passive and they prey on those they think are weak and use their power to abuse and manipulate those same people. Seniors go as far to manipulate supervisors to make them think that the people that are beneath them aren’t doing their jobs. There is no specific on the job training. You are just given work to do and figure out on your own. When you do the work incorrectly, they look at you as though you are crazy. What the job needs is structure and professional training but that can take years to build because the environment is that toxic and people are already “set in their ways.” I get that this is Probation, but they tend to forget that we are all coworkers and we work together during an 8 hour shift 5 days a week. We all should be at peace when working together and not a war.
