Pros

Easy interview and hiring process, friendly day-to-day staff, decent starting salary for inexperienced/first-time EMS providers

Cons

As a new hire I was informed several times during my first week that if something was not going well or not functioning properly, "that's just AMR". The training process was confusing and at times very frustrating, especially as an experienced EMS provider. As a new provider entering this company I would be wary of performing my first rides and patient contacts with so little training and disorganization. The salary also leaves a lot to be desired for seasoned EMS providers transferring in since it does not appear that there is any additional compensation for prior experience. And as other EMS providers know, work/life balance is always difficult in this field, but I think that AMR makes it even more difficult by giving you little to no control over your schedule, especially as a new hire. It also is very difficult to arrange to take time off, and actually have it approved.

Pros

Career growth opportunities, supportive coworkers, opportunities to learn and develop, ability to advance if you stay engaged and work hard

Cons

Healthcare/EMS can be demanding, long hours at times, stressful days, and workload can be heavy depending on staffing and operations. These things aren’t specific to AMR, that’s our industry in general.

Pros

There’s a good workforce here with employees who are well united on issues a strong sense that the company is actually pushing toward a positive future in terms of operations. Ambulance fleet seems to be getting good upgrades and call volume (in most areas) is manageable. There is also a good amount of OT available with bonuses/incentives available. Matching 401k is nice and health benefits are very reasonable.

Cons

For being such a large operation, the pay rate seems to be lacking as of right now. Most employees with adult responsibilities are having to rely heavily on overtime/incentives just to have a semi-comfortable lifestyle outside of work. Uniforms definitely need improvements and training for new EMTs seems a bit lackluster. The morale can be low at times also due to the company being write-up happy (for lack of a better term). Lack of 24 hour units and proper posting locations makes for a somewhat harsh work day as well.
