I appreciate your honesty, and I am sorry to hear you did not have a positive experience.
When we interview people for the position you held, i.e. Account Manager, we tell the candidates that we are looking for “hunters”, i.e., individuals who can prospect for and find new clients. We tell them they will be building their own portfolio of clients, their own book of business, and if they succeed, they will have a great career in this industry.
This is a “people person” industry – those who love helping others, do very well; those who don’t, not so well.
Those Account Managers who “sell” themselves - “Oh, I can do that”, just to get a large base salary - quickly find out if they are a good fit in this industry, or not.
In my experience, when things don’t go well for them as Account Managers, they tend to blame their manager, which is me. But most know that “hunters” control their own destiny.
This Industry is an awesome Industry, but it’s not for everyone (everyone in the Industry knows that). Again, I am sorry things didn’t work out. It always hurts me too, deep inside, when things don’t work out. We are small tight-knit group. We become like family here at Albin Engineering. So this is my family, and it’s a super rewarding industry, for the right folks. It brings me great joy when things do work out; we have tons of those too! Over the last 25 years in business. We must be doing something right :-)
