Pros
Friendly and helpful colleagues. Remote/flexible working. Good work-life balance. Some people set a very bad example, but you don't have to follow it. This might be team dependent.
Cons
No annual salary reviews or performance bonuses. Very bad scaling problems. Senior management would rather waste cash on vanity projects than your remuneration or ensuring financial health of the company. DevOps is 95% just Ops - there are no proficient developers in what is already quite a large team. Unreasonable amount of failures on-call. Instead of fixing the root cause, more people are thrown at the problem to deal with the fallout manually. Severe lack of communication within DevOps team(s). There are few opportunities for junior members to learn from senior members. Automation team is an oxymoron as it's mostly dealing with issues manually. This is where all the juniors are shoved and are only superficially exposed to modern DevOps tools with few opportunities to actually use them. 'Workflow restarter team' would be a more fitting name.
