Pros

Vanir provides many opportunities to grow within the firm. Each person's talent is highly valued and always supports opportunities for professional development. Achievements are highly valued and praised at many levels. Vanir has a personal atmosphere that is friendly and open for collaborative dialogues.

Cons

Retirement plan at Vanir is not optimal. Other than 401K, need to supplement it with other personal retirement plans.

Pros

Vanir's medium size means it isn't overburdened by a bunch of corporate bureaucracy - this makes it a place where you can more easily pitch ideas or champion a side task or generally make things your own. Additionally, the private ownership structure means they aren't beholden to shareholders. I've found this to be a positive because when someone's unbillable for a period of time, they aren't laid off. The company can absorb it for a period if they see the person's value or if they've developed a positive relationship over time.

Cons

Because they're not beholden to shareholders and because they aren't a giant behemoth, there isn't a ton of structured guidance for folks in the field. Some people like this because they don't like micromanagement and they know what they're doing, but it can be intimidating as a younger employee. I've been lucky to have many good mentors and bosses who I can reach back to with questions, but not everybody is so lucky.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughtful feedback. We’re glad to hear that you value the flexibility and supportive culture that our medium-sized, privately-owned structure provides. We also appreciate your recognition of the efforts we make to retain valuable team members during unbillable periods. We understand your concern about the need for more structured guidance, particularly for younger employees. Your suggestion for a mentorship program is an excellent idea, and we’re pleased to share that we are actively working on developing a mentorship initiative to better support new hires. This program will pair employees with experienced mentors outside their immediate reporting line to foster growth, provide guidance, and create additional opportunities for collaboration. Your input is invaluable as we strive to make Vanir an even better place to work. Please don’t hesitate to share any further thoughts or ideas. Thank you again for your contribution—it helps us grow stronger as a team!

Pros

Leadership turnover and disorganization create an environment where oversight is minimal and expectations are so unclear that it’s easy to do very little without consequences.

Cons

Expect little to no financial recognition. There are no bonuses, raises are capped at 3% (when they happen at all), and approvals can take six months due to HR inefficiencies. In 2026, a pay-date change will make paychecks look smaller. All of this happens while ownership shows up a few times a year in a Mercedes and designer shoes, which makes the disconnect hard to ignore.
