Pros
Great team atmosphere from all levels. The company really cares about its employees. You get out of it what you put into it.
Cons
None to mention. Sometimes it does get stressful but that makes it interesting every day.

Great culture, great work environment, friendly coworkers, and a very rewarding experience as a whole!
2 Jun 2023 - Contractor Sales Representative in Murfreesboro, TNRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I have worked at store 1213, the Murfreesboro, TN location for going on 3 months now. I have had a fantastic experience and I couldn’t have asked for much more. All my coworkers are super funny and positive, my manager and area manager have been nothing but helpful and respectful, and they genuinely care about their employees.
Cons
It’s a LOT to take in, especially the first couple weeks. From learning the computer system to figuring out where everything is in the yard, it can be overwhelming at times. However, all of the staff are willing to help you learn how to do things correctly if you just ask. It can be a very physically demanding job, but if you don’t mind hard work it can be a very rewarding experience.

Pros
My tenure with this company spans 18 years. 84 Lumber places family values first and demonstrates respect and honor to its employees. After my college graduation, I was unsure about my career path. However, my lack of experience in the building material industry did not hinder my employment. 84 Lumber provided me with comprehensive training and equipped me with the necessary tools to succeed, which enabled me to advance quickly in the company. Even presently, the company continues to offer daily support to me and my team. I intend to retire from this company.
Cons
Currently - none at this time

Hard work and willingness to learn will pay off
2 Jun 2023 - Area Manager in Sanford, FLRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I started with this company almost 22 years ago as a Manager Trainee. I came in after getting my bachelor's degree and not sure what I wanted to do with my career. I got a "temporary" job with 84 while I figured it out. I enjoyed what the company provided with advancement opportunities and the family atmosphere. The work is challenging, but rewarding. You can make a great living if you put the effort in.
Cons
If you are not willing to learn and work hard this will not be the company for you.

Pros
They give you a paycheck
Cons
They do really well on selling you on the job. However, it’s nothing like the job description. Being a comanager is basically being a glorified cashier/salesman. That does whatever the store manager doesn’t want to do. As a trainee you have to unload and load windows and doors, that are heavy, and carry them across the warehouse. No carts or easier way to do it. They have training videos, but my store manager just told me how to answer the phone, and then threw me to the wolves, with no one to help me. Instead of having me actually complete my training first and understand a little more how things work . No work life balance, you may compensate people for their time but most people do not want to work 48 hours a week. The schedule is horrible you’ll be at work lol day with no time to schedule appointments. And they don’t pay enough for basically having you do everything. Lastly, the pod system is so complicated for no reason. The most complicated pod system I’ve ever seen.

Pros
Like it. You have to know how to do the job though.
Cons
None, really. Everyone working for someone else knows it will never be perfect. Perfect isn’t the goal. Just, livable. It is a livable place. You could thrive, even.

It's a job worth having but only under certain conditions.
13 May 2023 - Manager Trainee in Columbia Station, OHRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
84 Lumber has a good promotion structure where you can be promoted fairly quickly, the benefits and 401k are notably good- and get even better with time. the 401k is a 10% contribution of your paycheck match after 5 years, which given where you can be at 5 years your retirement will be very, very nice. Immediate pay is mediocre for the work you will be doing, but somewhat good for work in general- promotions are the way to get this figure up to pretty impressive compensation. What's great if you are young is the fact that 84 Lumber will make you competent, you will learn more in a year working there than 2 years at a community college, if you have no college degree, don't plan on going, no specific career planned out, this is a place to get really good with a valuable skill.
Cons
84 Lumber is a particularly stressful environment, it's blue collar work 50% of the time, stocking heavy planks of wood, using forklifts, unloading trucks, picking up trash, fixing bunks of wood. This job can be pretty heavy manual labor aproximately 30-40% of the time. The heaters in most 84 Lumbers are not good, your winters will be cold. This is a job that requires you to be tough starting or get tough, it's emotionally and physically demanding, especially when you actually try to contribute to the company instead of being lazy. Aside from that it's easy to resent the upper-level management, the job of MT is the bottom of the barrel and you will be treated accordingly, sadly. The hardest part of the job is the fact that when you start, you are now married to 84 Lumber, 48 hours a week is substantial when it comes down to it, if you have a long commute like i did (1 hour of driving daily) it really feels .like you can have no other obligations besides the job.

Pros
Some cool co-workers and product knowledge.

Management is terrible. So much nepotism and favoritism. If you are not part of the in crowd then it is hard to get promoted. No facial hair allowed.
