In need of a job? California Employment Development Department (EDD) can help. The agency provides a wide range of services such as helping jobseekers find work and employers fulfill labor needs, as well as offering support for the unemployed, disabled workers, and welfare-to-work recipients. EDD also manages the collection of payroll taxes and employment records for more than 17 million Californians. The agency, which operates from hundreds of service locations across the state, has an annual budget of about $11 billion. EDD traces its roots back to 1915 with the establishment of State Free Employment Bureaus.
