ECO2 Plastics Snapshot
Recycler ECO2 Plastics wants to get the oil out. Using carbon dioxide and solvents rather than water, the company's Eco2 Environmental System cleans plastic containers that have been used for motor oil and agricultural chemicals. The containers are then shredded into plastic flakes, which are used as raw materials by manufacturers of plastic containers. Technology for the system is licensed from Honeywell International and the US Department of Energy. ECO2 Plastics market its system to recyclers. The company, which closed its doors and filed for Chapter 11 reorganization in 2009, emerged from bankruptcy in 2010 as a private company and restarted operations at its Melno Park, California, facility.
