I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at WIDA (Madison, WI) in Feb 2024
Interview
Interviewed for the Contract Specialist position. The process was smooth and organized, everyone was very kind and welcoming. Only reason I declined was because I received a greater financial opportunity.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
They asked about my background in contracting and how it would fit in with the work I'd be doing with WIDA.
A friend of mine told me of a job available; we both were colleagues some years back in the same department of an educational publisher. He knew I was open to opportunities so he asked for my CV. I sent it and later was interviewed by the director over the content specialists. They were trying to hire someone quickly so avoided normal formalities and just interviewed a few candidates who were known by staff. They ended up hiring someone the director knew.

Interview
Phone screening first, then panel interview with two HR people and would-be direct supervisor. Horrible experience. They were unprofessional and unprepared. First phone screening was aggressive and borderline rude. Because of qualifications I moved on to the panel interview. The times offered had no regard for time-zone differences, but I accepted a video interview that was at 5:30AM my time and 8:30am theirs. In this panel, one person asked the questions, one was completely disengaged, the other showed up late. The aggressive HR person was still aggressive, cutting me off mid-sentence repeatedly. When I dared ask a question this same person responded "WE are the ones asking questions here" and didn't answer. They asked basic questions, a clear indication that they had never looked at my resume, because it was all there in the first three bullets.
At the end I asked about the process, was told I would hear from them within a week. I followed up and was ghosted for 3 weeks. At that point I had figured there would be no next step, but I followed up anyway just to be met with aggressive HR person again, who told me "What? you didn't get a notification from our other HR person?" I answered no, and she replied "You'll hear from us by the end of the week." Ghosted again. A week later I got an automated message saying I hadn't been chosen for the position. The interview showed lack of respect and character.
