      Associate Producer Interview

      2 Jan 2013
      Anonymous employee
      Phoenix, AZ
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Virgo Publishing (Phoenix, AZ) in Sept 2012

      Interview

It was a very professional and seamless interview process. I applied online, an advertisement directed me to the HR director. She contacted me within 2 weeks via email for an in-person interview, no questions asked. I sat down with my supervisor, his supervisor, and the HR director who had scheduled my interview. They did at least half of the talking, and it felt like a low pressure situation. First they did a lot of talking about the nature of their company (which can be difficult to grasp at first), then about what the job would entail. I talked about myself for a while, elaborated on my CV, and talked about why I liked the position and how my experience qualified me. My immediate supervisor asked me technical questions to see what experience I had. They were straightforward and easy to answer. His supervisor and the HR director asked questions that were more general and behavioral. Things like, "How do you inspire yourself to be creative?", "Tell me about a time where..." (sorry, at this point I can't remember what the situation was). They even wanted to make sure I could handle the mundane aspects of the job. One supervisor asked me how I could handle making content about self storage and garage doors. Overall, it was a very relaxed interview. Go in with a 2 minute speech about yourself ready, and the rest of the interview will flow by easily. One note; my position was in the art department. So naturally my supervisors are wired a little differently than a sales, events, or marketing supervisor. But nonetheless, go in prepared, and if you're qualified you'll have a very easy time. This is a truly personable company to work for, and they're not about all the formalities you get use to with most "big" companies.
