Screening with a recruiter then virtual interview with the manager and director of talent acquisition. Did not leave a good impression, one of the interviewers was 20 minutes late. Made it apparent that I was not taken seriously as a candidate. They both were in casual clothing, as a recruiter I always try to wear business clothes when I’m doing virtual interviews. Kept asking the same questions over again. Received a decline email (like others that I’ve read here) on a Sunday night at 11pm woke me up while I was sleeping. It seemed they already had a candidate and was just going through the motions of interviewing me. Maybe when you schedule a decline email it should be during the day?

Question 1
Experience, types of positions I’ve recruited for, motivations
Simple application process. A phone iinterview was scheduled for a few days later. Interview was simple and pretty much standard. When asked why I wanted back in sales I replied to increase market share and profits for the branch. I was then asked about my background. When the regional sales manager who was interviewing me found out I had been a regional manager before he asked how much I had increased business for the region in that position. When I replied 56% his tone changed. Even more when he was talking about his region which is a strong region and the lack of double digit growth from year to year. Finally the call ended and I was basically ghosted. No follow up till I pressed the matter. Then the standard "We decided to take a different path" was all I recieved. I even asked for feedback like I do on every bid to see what might have went wrong. Crickets.
I applied through other source. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at United Rentals (Charlotte, NC) in Jan 2026
Interview
Fairly straight forward phone interview. answered all their questions, informed of follow up 3 to 5 days later, then proceeded to be ghosted.
no follow up was performed from their side.
